6 inch sperm whale tooth

Description

Scrimshawed Sperm Whale Tooth – Flying Seabird

This beautiful scrimshawed 6 inch sperm whale tooth features a striking hand-engraved depiction of a flying seabird, rendered in a classic black-and-white scrimshaw style. The bird is shown in flight with its wings fully extended, creating a strong sense of movement across the naturally curved surface of the tooth.

The engraving on this 6 inch sperm whale tooth incorporates fine line work and delicate stippling to give the bird depth and definition while allowing the warm, creamy color of the sperm whale ivory to remain an important part of the composition. A handwritten inscription or signature is also visible alongside the artwork, adding additional character and interest to the piece.

This 6 inch sperm whale tooth has a pleasing natural form, with a smooth, gently curved surface that provides an excellent canvas for the engraving. At approximately 15 cm (6 inches) in length, it is a substantial and attractive example of scrimshaw art.
